Over it

Meteorologists always claim that ‘this time last year we had…..’. Well as far as I’m concerned with the weather it is now just look outside, and dress appropriately or you’ll pay the price.

However you look at it there will always be room for vanity, and with ear muffs what does a little heat loss from the head mean anyway? There has been, and always will be narcissists in our realm so let them do what they do, and the rest of us dress to go from place to place warm and covered.

Speaking of clothing I love wearing my Icebreaker’s wool long sleeve half-zip a windbreaker or vest or just a fleece sweater for the top. For the bottoms today I wore my Kuhl nylon pants along with my Altra superiors 3.0.

Workout clothing has come a very long way from cotton sweats, and cotton socks to nylon, spandex, Lycra, and very good wool apparel to pick from. With hundreds of styles, and brands you can find everything you need that is also expensive or affordable. Shop wisely.

Running/workout pants that you’d see in the seventies (aging myself) dancing on the tv to get people at home to exercise are replaced with same attire wearing individuals in a regular gym class, running outside, and even in the grocery store.

Now, if only we can get the other spandex/Lycra wearing individuals to start working out maybe we can make the attire look less “stressed” when they wear it so as to not be mistaken for a Mucinex character in real life.

Today was a great day working out at the park. Rucked and carried extra load to the park, and en route we saw the beginning of a beautiful sunrise which was the color of red wine all over the sky.

That motivated us a little more and we dig deep for this one workout which included ruck sit-ups with a press, sandbag man makers, sb tosses, flutter kicks, and a ruck loaded up hill bear crawl to finish.

This weather isn’t bad as long as you’re moving around, and enjoying the company that suffers along with you.

This is how we looked post workout this morning. Happy crew, and hope to see you with us.

Recycled flooring, not recycled breathing

I don’t know about you, but 31F feels good with just a wool shirt and a sandbag. Especially when your lugging it around for 300m, then performing 3 rounds of man-makers, shoulder to shoulder and finishing off with leg levers while holding said bag.

We ended up doing our WOD in a kids lot adjacent to the Barrie Park field, and man what a nice feeling cork ( I believe the material is) felt. However I think it’s recycled tires.

Man-makers are anaerobic system builders. When you think you’re good to go for an exercise and then you realize your second gear switched on on the first set, and you try not puking on the third set you know deep down that it is something that needs more work.

Humbled once again by a simple exercise routine, and a sandbag. This year is going to be fun, and I’d like to share this fun with you all. So, let’s get signed up.

See you soon!

Not a typical get up

I’ve performed the traditional Turkish get up with kettlebells, dumbbell , and wrestling dummies. Working with sandbags has taken this movement to another level once you are in the middle or latter part of your workout when this movement has to be performed and you are gassed.

The question is why not put it at the beginning where it might make sense? Well, when you’re preparing your body, and mind to get strong it helps you to have confidence of what you’re capable of when you are almost on the verge of total physical exhaustion.

Today is such a day, and this week has been putting people in that very state of exhaustion that you need to be able to function in especially if your in the Military, LEO, FF/Medic.

Today we’re are @Roos Recreation Center.

Man made results

Work, power, endurance, time, and distance will give you the results you’re looking for. What am I talking about?

Grinders, or more in the terms of a crap of work done for time without rest that includes but not limited to linear single object movement is what will get you what you’re looking for! Your body is meant to bend, rotate, and flex.

Today you’ll be doing just that in the VB court at Roos Recreation Center, Forest Park, IL.

Dew? You mean water!

After yesterday’s LaborDay WOD we are sore going into this mornings event. Took a little longer to warm up, and with more groans, grunts, and laughing than usual.

Today seems a bit off on the exercises, but using the tools at hand this WOD got interesting pretty fast! Breathing heavy right from the start I noticed the dew on the grass wasn’t just dew. It was drenching water masquerading as dew.

If you can picture it glossy, reflective blades of grass in a humid morning. As you begin to walk in it the water begins to splash all over you!

We had yet to start and I was soaked from my knees down! So, what did we have to do as the first exercise? Freaking Burpees! Now my dry upper body is totally drenched not so much by sweat but by the water in the grass. Drenched! And not even five reps in! 😂

Oh, boy! The looks Selene gave me when she read out loud the first exercise! I was almost in tears. She beat me to 50 like nothing. As if I was standing still. To be honest I did stand still trying to keep the blackness from encroaching my being. Did I mention yesterday’s workout?

So, we ran a little and I tried my best not to laugh out loud otherwise I’d not be writing right now. Have you ever not hit your head with a sandbag(sb) while performing the shoulder to shoulder exercise? Who doesn’t look funny doing it? I wear my hat on purpose for things like that, but I just checked it and I may have gotten knocked around a few times by the sb. But, watching her do it made it a little more entertaining. Sshhhh, don’t tell her I wrote that. Hahahahahahaha!

Have any of you performed inch worms on a very wet natural grass field for 50m after getting your body smacked around a few times? Try it! Lots of fun! That’s how we finished our workout today!

I am very honored, and Blessed to have such a great workout partner as my fiancé! She has a no slack attitude with a bit of a competitive drive (she will deny it).
